Re: moved server, DNS problemsFrom: Men & Mice Support Date: Wednesday, March 13, 2002
Time: 1:56:20 amThe reverse zone (the classless subnet reverse zone delegation) isn't
affecting this at all. It's an unrelated issue.
I currently can't get a normal query response from your server. Of
course, ns.onlygames.com isn't responding at all, as you said, but
ns2.onlygames.com is also refusing connections. The only response I
get is from ns.usiultrasonic.com.
That server has the following to say regarding the two zones you've
mentioned, cyberdarts.com and onlygames.com:
cyberdarts.com. NS ns.usiultrasonic.com.
cyberdarts.com. NS ns.onlygames.com.
cyberdarts.com. NS ns2.onlygames.com.
cyberdarts.com. NS ns2.nstci.com.
onlygames.com. NS ns.onlygames.com.
onlygames.com. NS ns.usiultrasonic.com.
onlygames.com. NS ns2.onlygames.com.
onlygames.com. NS ns2.nstci.com.
Notice the last NS record in each case. So while this server isn't
listed in the delegation records, it is listed in the authority
records being given out by the only server listed in the delegation
that responds. On the other hand, ns2.nstci.com no longer responds
authoritatively for your domains either, so that shouldn't be a
problem (for these two domains, anyway).
So at the moment, you're operating on one server, and that server has
stale data. There's obviously some problem preventing connections
from my workstation to your server (ns2.onlygames.com) - does your
server have more than one IP address? Is it behind a
possibly-misbehaving NAT server? Here's what I'm seeing:
% dig @ns2.onlygames.com onlygames.com ANY
; <<>> DiG 8.3 <<>> @ns2.onlygames.com onlygames.com ANY
; (1 server found)
;; res options: init recurs defnam dnsrch
;; res_nsend to server ns2.onlygames.com 65.85.152.126: Connection refused
If you can isolate and fix the cause of this, your slave server will
no doubt update itself within a few minutes (based on the Refresh
value it currently has in each zone).
