no, ?.gTLD-servers.net are not ?.root-servers.net :))
The TLD's were split off from the root-servers.net about 18 mos ago.
1. ?.root-servers.net are now authoritative only for the root-zone, and
parent/delegate the gTLD and ccTLD zones. referrals are to the xTLD servers.
2. gTLD and ccTLD servers parent/delegate, eg, the .com zone. referrals are
to your NS's.
3. Your ns1.domain.com is authoritative for your zone and can
parent/delegate to sub-domains.
