Reverse delegation filename(?)From: Bill Staudenheimer Date: Monday, April 1, 2002
Time: 12:05:11 amHaving at long last found the right words to say into the right cubicle
at xo.com,
I got a Classless Reverse Delegation for my subnet,
which they designated as
64/27.26.31.209.in-addr.arpa.
for 32 IPs (32 minus 27 = 5 bits => 32)
So using the helper in QDNS on OS 9, I set it up.
However, setting it up on an OS X machine using the QuickDNS Manager,
the helper refuses to accept the name, apparently because of the slash
character,
significant in Unix filesystems. The best I can get is
64-27.26.31.209.in-addr.arpa.
My impression was that the"64/27" or "64-27"
are strings, and thus would not be equal and not recognized properly.
So are the dash "-" or slash "/" interchangeable with respect
to whatever uses them in the DNS world?
