Commissions and Referral TrackingFrom: James D. Kirk Date: Monday, June 3, 2002
Time: 5:06:35 pmIn the process of trying to find the "right" affiliate tracking/referral
program. Here are the basics:
1. My partner owns a web hosting business. Does his business stuff with
disparate solutions at this time (IIS, Quick Books, some manual work)
2. We decided to raise number of hosting accounts we'd create an affiliate
program.
3. Just purchased into the Internet Marketing Center's AssocTRAC affiliate
asp program. Good affiliate tracking systems, but not set up for recurring
payments in the slightest.
After getting a word of mouth from one of the OptiGold Real World users, I
went to the site and checked it out. It looks great to me, and depending on
the answers to some of my questions, I am going to actually encourage my
partner to get his money back for the AssocTRAC purchase and set up his
entire business with OptiGold.
From studying your information on line, I think your system is more than
adequate to do the accounting for the referrals, however do you have any
type of tracking system in place like the referral software packages are
using? For example, the AssocTRAC system is using client side cookies, and
CGI tracking to register a referral (or to track banner ads for marketing
purposes). Does OptiGold do anything like this, or could it be integrated
into the system. If that is unlikely, would you have any suggestions for how
to use OptiGold and how we could get that other functionality?
Not having had a chance to check out your software yet, I'll assume just
based on my reading over the users manual that if someone refers several
accounts, and is getting paid on a monthly basis the residual incomes, there
would be no problems doing a search on a domain name that might decide to
end its hosting with us? How would the system allow us to adjust that
affiliate's monthly check (to reduce it by the commissions that he would no
longer get)? I suppose a detailed answer isn't really important to this
question, as long as there is an easy, painless way to remove that hosting
account and have the referrer's account to be automatically updated (of
course an auto email to the referrer would be great too! Any chance of that
happening?)
I realize I am probably trying to make this software more of an affiliate
program, but I really envision using it as both the "operating system" of
the Web Hosting business, as well as the affiliate tracking and referral
payout program.
Thanks for your time. It's much appreciated.
