I think that you are trying to overthink things... {grin}

This is what I did instead... I changed the strip verbiage preference to
be a per invoice preference instead of a per customer preference. If you
use the preference, an invoice that has line item(s) worth time credit
will show the lines, if it isn't worth any time credit it will strip the
lines.
