To migrate your data to the format used on Mac OS X, you'll need to
use a couple of AppleScripts we included with QuickDNS Manager. The
following assumes that you're upgrading a single server from Mac OS 9
to Mac OS X (rather than replacing one machine with another):
- Boot the server into Mac OS 9 - actually boot into it, as server
software often won't work in the Classic environment.
- Launch QuickDNS Remote 3.5.x for Mac OS 8/9 on the server.
- Launch QuickDNS Manager 3.5.x on any Mac (Mac OS 8.5 or later) on
the network.
- In Manager, connect to your server.
- Run the included AppleScript (included with Manager) named "Export
Server Configuration". This saves all your zone data to a set of text
files on the machine running Manager. It will create a folder with
the same name as the server.
- Now reboot the server into Mac OS X.
- If you haven't done so already, install QuickDNS Remote (and
Server) for Mac OS X.
- Once again, in Manager, connect to your server.
- On the machine running Manager, run the included AppleScript named
"Import Server Configuration".
Unfortunately, these scripts don't work with Mac OS X 10.1 or later,
so you'll have to run QuickDNS Manager on a machine running a Mac OS
version between 8.5 and 10.0.4 for the purpose of running these
scripts.
