TCP/IP name servers settingsFrom: Gabriele Polidori Date: Friday, August 23, 2002
Time: 3:37:37 amHello,
we have 1 Mac [147.123.181.20] used both as mail server (EIMS) and DNS
(QDNS Pro).
We are authoritative for our zone 'onenet.it', and we also have a rDNS
zone (the same has our ISP).
Now, I noticed that due to a little error (now corrected) in the rDNS of
our ISP, EIMS couldn't retrieve the correct name of the mail server.
So I'd like to know a few things:
1) does EIMS use the tcp/ip control panel settings to determine its name ?
2) why doesn't EIMS check if there's a dns server running on the same IP
and why it doesn't use the name set in the domain pref window as primary ?
3) both for EIMS and QDNS: is it better to use our own IP in the tcp/ip
or our provider ones or both ?
This machine is used as dns and mail server also by people on our LAN
and clients checking their e-mail from elsewhere.
Thank you for your help,
Gabriele Polidori
PS: I'm in digest mode, so please reply directly to me :)
