Men & Mice WebsiteFrom: Matt Henderson Date: Sunday, September 1, 2002

Just wanted to comment that I find the Men & Mice website quiet confusing.
Today I visited the site to learn about QuickDNS 4.0 for MacOS X. I use
QDNS running on two Linux machines, and managed by Quick DNS Manager for
MacOS X. My main objectives visiting the site were:
(1) Learn how QDNS 4.0 is _different_ from 3.5, in terms of features
(2) Learn whether the system architecture is the same in terms of modules
so that I can assess the activities required to upgrade what we
have now.
>From the home page, I clicked on the QuickDNS product page:

There's an Executive Summary that doesn't help. There are testimonials
everywhere, that don't help. There's a "saves time & money" checklist that
doesn't help. So, the main product page has no specific information about
the product.
With over 30 links on the page, I tried clicking on "Features &
Benefits"...
http://www.menandmice.com/2000/2210_quick_dns_f&b.html
More bulleted lists of marketing statements, "easy-to-use", "low migration
costs", "simple interface", "fast installation", "manage more zones in less
time."
This page doesn't answer my questions, so let's click on "Technical
Requirements"...
http://www.menandmice.com/2000/2240_technical_quickdns.html
Ok, now I see a breakdown of individual components by platform: QuickDNS
Manager, Remove and "Central". But what is "Central"? You won't find an
answer on this page.
We've run out of QuickDNS links on this page, so back to "Features &
Benefits", and download the "PDF Data Sheet" -- which turns out to be a PDF
version of the "Features & Benefits" section of the website.
At this point I give up. IMHO, the website feels like a junk email -- lots
of text, and little information. None of my questions are answered, and a
new question comes up, "What is QuickDNS Central?"
Could someone on this list briefly indicate what is different in 4.0 -- in
terms of features and system architecture?
Many thanks,
--
