Note that QuickDNS expects this file to be in
/var/named/conf/root.hints, not /var/named/db.cache.

Thus:

sudo dig @192.33.4.12 NS > /var/named/conf/root.hints

(The "." on the command line above is unnecessary, as this is the default.)
