there is no error logged trying to open db.cache, so does named.conf have
zone "." { type hint; file "db.cache; };
????
for bind8, on FreeBSD, "success" is logged as:
10-Oct-2002 15:09:56.952 hint zone "" (IN) loaded (serial 0)
