Go back and re-read my first response. The answer you seek is there.

Here is a summarized version: QuickDNS Server for classic Mac OS
doesn't implement an optional part of the DNS specification. BIND
does, but does so with an error (I think). The option in question is
to return the SOA record of the zone when asked for a non-existent
domain name. This option is part of the negative caching mechanism.
