Well of course... if you want people outside your firewall to access
Optigold via a web browser, the web server (not the database server mind
you) would need to be outside the firewall... or at least holes punched in
the firewall for the port (probably 80) that the employees are going to be
coming in on. I would imagine that would be the case for any service. If
you put an FTP server inside your firewall and want people to access it from
outside the firewall, you are going to need to put holes in your firewall.

Another way to do it would be you could do a VPN that terminates INSIDE your
firewall though, and have them access it that way.

Just out of curiosity (I'm not be facetious) what does your architecture
look like for your current billing system if outside employees are accessing
it without a machine outside the firewall or a hole in the firewall?
