Re: Version 4.0 - Multi-User - Multi-Home?From: Men & Mice Support Date: Friday, November 15, 2002
Time: 2:40:28 pmSorry for the delay. Here are the three points which, taken together,
make this virtual server idea somewhat tedious to use.
- Only one copy of QuickDNS Central can manage a particular copy of
QuickDNS Remote. I don't mean "at a time", I mean period. Once you
add a name server to one copy of Central, it will refuse to be
connected to another copy of Central.
- When you log into QuickDNS Central with QuickDNS Manager, Central
tells Manager the names (and possibly IP addresses) of your DNS
servers (the machines running QuickDNS Remote).
- When you create a zone, NS records are provided that reflect the
currently-connected name servers, and their names are (to reiterate)
defined just once in QuickDNS Central. Also, the master server name
in the SOA record is set to what QuickDNS Manager thinks is the
appropriate value.
So the upshot is, every time a reseller created a new zone, he would
have to change the NS records and the master server field of the SOA
record to reflect his names for the servers.
