We're set up so that we're running our primary DNS in house and the secondary is at our ISP. The last time I changed IPs, I did the following:
1) About a week before the switch, I went Network Solutions and changed the _secondary_ DNS on all our domain records to the DNS of our new ISP.
2) At the same time I set the TTLs on all our domains on our DNS to an hour. Our new ISP did the same on the secondary DNS for all our domains.
3) The day of the switch I went to Network Solutions and changed the IP in the hostname record for our primary DNS, the one we run in-house, to the new IP from our new provider.
4) A few days later, I changed all the TTLs back to their default.
Since keeping the old DNS up at the old IP was not an option for us, this seemed to work fairly well. We had no reports of any of our servers being inacessible for any period of time. Is this a good way to make a switch? Given the circumstances, could I have done better? Thanks,
Ken
