Well you are right... it is setup as a CNAME, so the intention was to have a
name entered into that preference, not an IP address (which is why QuickDNS)
appends the domain to the end of the IP address if you enter it as such.
Couldn't you (please) just use it as a CNAME instead of an A record and save
me lots of programming hassle? heh
