problems installing qdns 4 on a linux serverFrom: aitayemi@metrong.com (Ayotunde Itayemi) Date: Thursday, February 20, 2003
Time: 7:45:56 amHi Chris, Hi All,
Thanks for that solution! OK after the install I noticed that the qdnsr
service won't start.
Checking the system's message log, I found out that it was due to the
fact
that it did
not have permission to write to the /var directory.
The permission on the /var directory is 755 and it is owned by root.
I had to change the permission to 777 to get the qdnsr service to start
(it
is running as
user named group named at the moment) - which brings up a security
issue. I
have
looked at the startup script and it would have been nice if the program
could me made
flexible enough for one to change the location where it rights its pid
file
(such as with
BIND for example).
Now, to my new problem - the link at your site for downloading the
Windows
Quick
DNS manager still points to version 3.5 even though the text on the page
states that
it is version 4. After installing the software, and starting it, when I
try
to connect to
the server (specifying dns-name with no password, I also tried the
systems
IP address)
all I get is a message that the manager cannot connect to the server!?
Any ideas.
Thanks.
Regards,
Tunde I.
