Yes, except the 3.5 installer will overwrite named automatically.

Yes. However, the default behavior of the operating system is to not
start the DNS service (the BIND name server) at boot time. And if you
tell the QuickDNS installer not to install BIND, then QuickDNS won't
launch the name service at boot time either.

The simple solutions include:

- Edit the QuickDNS boot script to launch the BIND name server
(change "-NO-" to "-YES-" on or about line 12).

- Edit /etc/hostconfig to enable the DNS service (change
DNSSERVER=-NO- to DNSSERVER=-YES-).

>Are the maintenance upgrades for bind or quickdns?

QuickDNS. However, the QuickDNS installer includes a BIND installer.
