I did not say all, but you know very well tons of people who use it don't
have clue about DNS. There is definitely a segment, minority? majority? of
DNSreport users who don't have clue about how DNS works, and that's why
such a tool has to be very careful about giving out advice, since
inexperienced DNS admins will spend a lot of time trying to "fix" these
silly "warnings".

I didn't say that.

There's nothing wrong with using DNSReports, but like any GUI tool, the
real issues are behind the GUI, and when the GUI tool gives misleading
advice that inexperienced DNS admins don't know how to handle, it's
counter-productive.

btw, I have complaints about the texts of the error reports and warnings in
DNSExpert which could use quite a bit of re-work to reduce the amount
interpretation or guesswork as to what the warnings and errors mean.

No doubt using something is better than nothing. But that doesn't absolve
the bogus "warnings", "academic" issues, the splitting of frog hairs that
send people elsewhere (like this and other mailing lists) to figure out
what's going on, eg, the very comment that started this thread.

What's great about DNS is that a DNS box can be completely screwed up and
the damage is in nearly all cases limited to only that box. However, in
another key plumbing area that suffers from "mass market" admins, an SMTP
server can be screwed up (open relay, open proxy) and can cause tons of
damage as a conduit for mail abuse of other peoples SMTP boxes.
