Re: mondomail load capacityFrom: AKnasinski Date: Wednesday, August 6, 2003

I have a client who sends many messages (not sure on specifics) but
here are some factors to consider...
for filemaker/mail sending
windows is faster than macos for comparable hardware (pII 300 is faster
than G3/300) however
my client uses multiple macs with FMP 5.x for sending and then sends in
batches of 1000.
mail server on the local network is far faster than a remote server no
matter what net connection
mail server on windows is faster than mail on macos
I have setup Mercury Mail (Free SMTP server) on Windows 2k with the
same box running MSSQL *AND* FMP Server w/dual Pentium Pro 200's and
it's faster than a G3/400 desktop running EIMS. (when I say faster, I
mean taking messages from dual FMP clients *and* sending messages
across cable modem)
the biggest problem is probably bounce management when sending large
quantities. EIMS is truly unable to handle large loads of bounced
messages. client was forced to "dump" the sending address mailbox
periodically because it wasn't possible to "check" for new messages.

andy
