Jeff,
I have the same issue with DomainBank -- a company which is night/day
from the GoDaddy mindset. Apparently, they cannot delete a name server
if any zone has it registered as one of the two NS listings. But that
doesn't stop you from shutting the machine off, or just walking away
from that name server name. Nor does it stop you from changing the IP
address of the NS if you want to use that name in the future. You
aren't required to run a DNS just because someone else has listed that
NS for their domain.
BTW, DomainBank also has the ability to determine what zones list a NS.
Must be a database search tool they have with the Registry we don't
know about. Kinda handy. You'll have to ask GoDaddy nicely for the
list, but I'm sure they''ll cough it up for you.
