The data part of an A record must be an IP address. What you want is
hoolahoops.com. A 12.111.80.127
> www.hoolahoops.com A 12.111.80.127 <-- web server
This is fine, and usually preferred, but it could also be a CNAME:
www.hoolahoops.com. CNAME hoolahoops.com.
as long as you keep in mind the limitations of CNAMEs. The hoolahoops.com.
record cannot be a CNAME because CNAMEs can't have the same name as any
other records. In this case, hoolahoops.com. is the zone name, so there are
NS records and, presumably, an SOA record with that name.
Also, don't forget the dots (.) at the end of fully qualified domain names
(FQDNs).
