I'm not an NT guru (nor do I have aspirations to be one). Hehehe... I'm
smart, but I'm not a damn rocket scientist. hehe
Uhm... I would say yeah... upgrade to 4.0v2 if you are running 4.0v1
(it's a free upgrade from FileMaker, Inc.)
You might want to try (just as a test) to see what happens if you run the
web interface on machine that isn't the same as the one running FMServer.
Although, since it's a dual processor machine, I would think that NTs
threading would make it okay. But who knows.
I've seen a few instances of both the web interface and the server
running on the same machine... The web interface snags the majority of
the CPU resources so that it can process the request quickly. In doing
so, it of course left very little resources for FMServer. But it needs
to communicate with FMServer in order to get the data to serve. It
doesn't get it in a timely manner so it hogs MORE CPU resources to try to
get it faster, etc.
Basically what it did was choke itself off from FMServer, and in doing so
made the web interface slow.
Personally, I'll just be much happier when FileMaker Pro 5.0 Server comes
out. It will come in NT, Macintosh or UNIX (some flavors at least) and
have the web server built into the database server so you won't need a
separate client acting as the web server.
