the original nslookup, the one picked up by MS as they "innovatively"
cobbled together their tcp/ip stuff from elsewhere, did a PTR query on the
IP of the DNS it was defaulting to, and if the PTR didn't exist, nslookup
would say "host not found", misleading 10's of 1000s of people 100's of
1000's of times to conclude that their was a DNS problem, when the problem
was with nslookup.
nslookup delivered with BIND fixed this problem, but I'm pretty sure MS's
nslookup still has this false reporting.
The dig response is full of useful info that helps your analysis.
