Re: Return Receipt...From: Mike Oas Date: Sunday, May 16, 1999
Time: 1:12:19 pmActually,
If I send email from Outlook 2000, I get a majority of responses back that
users have read/opened/deleted before read email (they are using Eudora,
Netscape Messenger, Outlook Express, Outlook xx etc). It's true that all
mail clients do not offer it, but I see the majority of our users being able
to process return receipts.
The audit report is great, but then the user says "I didn't get it..." and
then it's a pain reviewing qmail logs to see if, indeed, they did get the
email. At least this way, I can say it was sent (based on the OG audit) and
you read it on Tuesday at 8:45pm... ( this is where the excuse "oh, it must
have been my husband" is used...)
I prefer to use OG's SMTP mailer instead of a MAPI client for continuity.
Of course, if it was a selectable feature, then individual OG users could
determine its worth. :)

Well, it wouldn't be a good way to track it, considering most SMTP
mailers don't support return receipts anyway.
Why not just check the customer's audit? It logs outgoing items already.
