Referral Credit

We have set up the referral settings so that a customer will get one
month of service free for every referral.

The only way to get the customers invoice to show up as receiving a
referral credit is to press the credit button on the customer info page
but we don't want to have to do this every time. When pressing the mass
referral credit button we get the following message: "There are no
accounts that are due to receive a referral credit"

The customer that was referred has already posted a payment. Is there a
setting we have missed?
