Java Issues

I needed to install OptiGold ISP on an employee's new computer today
and had some issues. Using Filemaker 5.0v3 and Java 1.2.2, the
filemaker was crashing. I suspected this was caused by the fact that
the machine already had Java 1.4.2 installed from the factory (it is a
new HP laptop). I uninstalled both versions of Java, OptiGold ISP, and
Filemaker Pro. I reinstalled the Java 1.2.2, then Filemaker Pro, then
OptiGold v 3.3.3. Filemaker always continued to crash. I finally
reformatted the computer (it is using Win XP Home) and repeated the
process. During the HP application disc reinstall, I unchecked the
Java 1.4.2 option in the custom install and then repeated the install
process of the Java 1.2.2, Filemaker and OptiGold ISP. I still
continued to have crashes when opening Filemaker Pro. If I uninstall
OptiGold ISP, Filemaker Pro opens with no problems. I eventually
uninstalled Java 1.2.2 and then installed Java 1.4.1. This appears to
have fixed the issue.

I am just wondering if there is a problem using 1.2.2 with OptiGold
3.3.3. I thought we HAD to use the 1.2.2 version of Java for OptiGold
to function correctly. Obviously this is not the case. Anyone have
the same trouble or have any suggestions as to why I had this result?
I'd like to know what version of Java we should be using with the most
current version of OptiGold ISP. It would be nice to be able to use a
more current version of Java because I have other employees complaining
they can't do other things with the old 1.2.2 version on their system.

Thanks in advance for any help, comment, or suggestion you might have.
