Next step in my upgradeFrom: Scott Haneda Date: Wednesday, June 30, 2004
Time: 8:18:07 pmOk, having played with QDNS on a local LAN machine, I went ahead and
installed the 2 apps on the real server that I plan on running DNS on.
I re-ran the export script on OS 9 and copied the files to the new server.
On my workstation, I ran the "Restore Zones" script, which seems to have
done a perfect job.
A few issues, in order to run the Restore Zones script, I had to add a
nameserver, for which I entered in ns1.hostwizard.com, it would not let me
proceed without a IP, and it would not let me use the real IP of
ns1.hostwizard.com. I ended up entering in the IP of the machine that
quickDNS was installed on. It took that and allowed me to import all the
data. When I click on the "Server Info" button, I see IP address
64.84.37.40 is listed, this is of course, not the IP that I need. I don't
want to update 300 whois records, so I want to turn off the OS 9 server,
then add in that IP to this machine as a second IP, the 64.84.37.40 IP needs
to remain as other stuff goes on with that IP. So what are my steps to turn
off the old one and bring on the new one?
I see there are 2 entries, one of localhost and what looks like the reverse
for localhost, I assume these are here for a reason and need to be here?
When I open up a slave zone, they all have red marks next to them, what does
that signify?
thanks
