The "official" Optigold ISP forum has moved:
http://forums.digitalpoint.com/forumdisplay.php?f=29
----------------------------------------------------

I got the following letter today.

Dear Authorize.Net Merchant,
You may be aware that over the past few days Authorize.Net has been
subjected to a series of ongoing and increasingly severe distributed denial
of service (DDoS) attacks. We would like to update you on the status of
these attacks as well as inform you of the steps we are taking to minimize
further DDoS disruptions. (Please see the Questions & Answers section at the
end of this email for full information.)

Authorize.Net appreciates your patience and sincerely apologizes for any
disruption you may have encountered as a result of the DDoS attacks. We will
continue to post updated information on the Authorize.Net homepage regarding
the status of the Authorize.Net services and our efforts to maintain normal
transaction processing services. No merchant or customer data was
compromised at any time during the attacks.

For additional information, please contact Authorize.Net Customer Support,
available from 6AM to 6PM Pacific Time, at 877-447-3938. Please be aware
that due to an excessive number of calls regarding this service disruption,
you may experience longer than average hold times.

Once again, we thank you for your patience and concern while we continue to
fight these unforeseen and malicious DDoS attacks.

Sincerely,
Authorize.Net

Questions and Answers Regarding DDoS Attacks Against Authorize.Net

Q. What is a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack?
A. A DDoS attack typically occurs when a hacker takes control of a large
number of computers-often distributed throughout the world (or fewer
machines "spoofing" IP addresses from all over the world)-to send huge
amounts of data to targeted servers. These "packets" of data can easily
overwhelm the processing capabilities of their targets and prevent them from
providing their intended services. DDoS attacks first appeared in 1999, and
routinely target large Internet companies including Yahoo, Amazon.com and
CNN.com. Unfortunately, DDoS attacks are regarded as a part of the risk that
is assumed when doing business via the Internet.

Q. Why is Authorize.Net being targeted?
A. Intrusions of this magnitude often happen to companies of our size.
Although we work closely with United States Federal Law enforcement
officials to identify and prosecute the originators of DDoS attacks, they
rarely operate in the United States which makes law enforcement exceedingly
difficult.

Q. What strategies does Authorize.Net use to protect its servers from DDoS
attacks?
A. Authorize.Net employs a number of industry standard hardware and software
tools and strategies as a defense against DDoS attacks. In the past, these
methods have successfully protected our servers. However, these recent
attacks have been unprecedented in their severity and tenacity, which has
led to intermittent disruptions in the availability of the Authorize.Net
service for many merchants. In response to this latest series of attacks,
Authorize.Net has been aggressively implementing additional layers of
protection. Please be assured that we are doing everything we can to fight
these attacks and restore normal transaction processing services.
Specifically, we are implementing additional technology solutions, engaging
with industry experts in the area of DDoS attacks and working with law
enforcement officials.
