Re: Secondary domain as zone?From: Men & Mice Support Date: Friday, January 14, 2005
Time: 11:49:01 amThat's not a secondary domain, it's a subdomain. And yes, a subdomain
can be separated into its own zone.
Create one or more NS records in pointinspace.com, like this:
name.pointinspace.com. NS some.name.server.
(You can just enter "name" for the name, rather than the whole thing;
QuickDNS will fill in the rest of the name.)
If the name servers for the subzone have names in the subzone, then
you'll also need glue records for them (but I'm guessing you won't
need this). Here's an example of one server that needs a glue record
and another that does not:
name.pointinspace.com. NS ns1.pointinspace.com.
name.pointinspace.com. NS ns.name.pointinspace.com.
ns.name.pointinspace.com. A 192.168.0.1
Once you have the necessary records in pointinspace.com, create the
new zone name.pointinspace.com. Make sure it has the exact same NS
and A records.
